I must say that the 2013 Mountaineering trip was more than I expected, more than most expected I think. Starting off the trip was a rather nice with a short helicopter trip up the valley, the views coming up from where we parked went from green and rolling brown to white grey and jagged, the terrain was steeeep. The first days objective was a mountain called Doubletop ....
The Annual Mountaineering Camp was held this year out of the Bill Putnam Hut at Fairy Meadows, a significant step up in difficulty and logistics, but it offered the opportunity to spend a week on or near the Gothics and Granite Glaciers in the Northern Selkirks. Access was a 64 km drive up the West [...]
Part of the activities for Thrashers Weekend was the opportunity to do some scrambles. On Saturday, two of us made the quick ascent of Baldy, the peak just above Barrier Bluffs. The weather was fine and the views were nice. We even made it down in time to take in a quick climb of two [...]
This year's Thrashers Weekend was filled with activity even though the weather wasn't the best. Friday was used as a training course for belaying and setting up top-rope anchors. Many of our Section's rope leaders attended, working mostly on "D" slab at Wasootch. It was great to see so many rope leaders out for this [...]
Karla and I made a trip to Bozeman Montana, to climb in the famous Hyalite Canyon, which is a half hour drive from Bozeman’s downtown. Hyalite is known as the ice-playground of big names such as Alex Lowe, Conrad Anker, and Jack Tackle. Hyalite’s reputation bred high hopes, but our trip exceeded them.

The Urban Adventure Race was held on Saturday, June 11 and the Gopher Chase was held on Saturday, September 17. This was my third year organizing the Urban AR, which has been occurring [...]
Skoki Mountain, carrying a 42lb backpack, scrambling, blisters and taking in the raw beauty of the mountains…this was my first backcountry adventure! A few things I learned along the way: Ensure the new hiking boots are well worked in! Hikes around the Meawasin Trail in Saskatoon will not do the job…as Alicia, [...]
by Dave McCormick From July 21 to 26, the Section held its Summer Mountaineering Camp, this year at the Peyto Hut on the Wapta Icefield. Every imaginable weather accompanied us during the week, from rain to snow to solar furnace. A total of 18 participants, some new to any kind of mountaineering, spent the week [...]
