Each year the Saskatchewan Section offers a Beginner’s Rock Climbing Weekend, on real rock, in the real outdoors.
The Saskatchewan Section’s “Thrasher’s Weekend” rock climbing trip is held on the Victoria day long weekend.
This is a beginners welcome trip – experience is an asset (for your enjoyment of the trip) but NOT a requirement. In previous years we have had several participants on the Thrasher’s Weekend that had never even climbed once, even on an indoor wall. Everyone enjoys this trip! It’s geared towards providing the safest possible environment for beginners and gym climbers to try climbing real rock. To this end, all climbing will be toproped, on anchors set only by the trip leader or designated rope leaders. There is lots of opportunity to challenge yourself on this trip, no matter what level of experience you have!
If you’ve never climbed on real rock before, don’t be intimidated at all – there’s lots of easy stuff to start out on. It’s different than indoor for sure – way more fun! (except when the weather’s bad… If we run into bad weather, we’ll deal with it as it comes. There’s always something to do in the Rockies!!)
