Kathy Hitchings recipient of the Don Forest Service Award

Kathy Hitchings was presented the Don Forest Service Award at this year's Annual General Meeting. Kathy has been involved with the Saskatchewan Section of the Alpine Club of Canada for over 25 years. She is one of the ACC Sask's many heroes who deserves this recognition for her continuous efforts to help maintain and sustain the ACC community.

New Film Programs Added to the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival Virtual World Tour

The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour has gone virtual and while we can’t replicate the experience of seeing these films on the big screen at this time, or visiting our excellent sponsor displays, the Banff Centre has curated programs of amazing outdoor films that will inspire you to live life to the fullest. We have some exciting news – on February 4th the Banff Centre will be releasing not one, but TWO new programs for online viewing: the Ruby and Sapphire programs!

Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival Virtual World Tour 2020/21

With the ongoing Covid health safety issues and restrictions, the Alpine Club of Canada – Saskatchewan Section, will not be hosting our usual in-theatre screening of the World Tour next year.  We are very happy to announce, though, that you can bring the adventure home because the World Tour is going virtual!

Ladies of Rock (LOR) Initiative and ACC Saskatchewan – A new movement to empower women through rock climbing

The Ladies of Rock initiative is about empowering women through rock climbing. This program, partnered with Saskatoon Interval House is a gym and outdoor rock climbing program that will be offered to women leaving domestic violence.

Walk the Wapta – A look back to 2006

Our Section is headed back out to the Wapta Icefield this summer from July 14-18, 2019. We recently came across some old stories from a couple members when they did a summer Section trip traversing the Wapta back in 2006. The Saskatchewan Section wants to update the club display and we need your help to select a suitable photo for a life-size enlargement. We are asking members to review their photo collections and submit photos that would be appropriate to promote the club to the public. If your photo is selected by the judging committee we will pay you $100 cash!

Flatlanders in a Vertical World

Since I was young, I always had a profound fascination and love the mountains. In the summer of 2015, I had my first opportunity to go on a week ­long mountaineering section trip. This would be my first time doing any sort of general mountaineering. I was so excited for this opportunity I signed up immediately when registration opened months before the trip would happen in late July.
