The section is hosting another ice climbing trip, which will be based out of Nordegg on Feb 24-25, 2018 weekend.  The trip is beginner friendly and has space for 18 participants.  The Nordegg trip is geared towards beginners, but is open to all climbers.  Climbing will be based out of the Nordegg area and could include the climbing areas of Balfour Wall, Isaac’s, SARS on Ice, Two O’clock Falls, and Cline River Gallery. These locations provide a wide range of options for all skill levels and even have a few mixed ice routes.  Climbing will begin the morning of the 24th with climbing all day on the Saturday and in the morning on the Sunday.

Group accommodations will be at the Shunda Creek Hostel in Nordegg and we have space reserved for 18 participants and 6 leaders. Accommodations are reserved for the 23rd and 24th (Friday and Saturday) nights. The price for accommodations will be about $61.00/person for the weekend.  Participants are able to extend their stay at the Hostel before and/or after the trip, but are responsible for arranging it.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation. In the past participants will typically carpool with other participants and this is usually arranged in the weeks leading up to the trip.

This trip is self-catered, which in the Nordegg area is best served by bringing your own food to the hostel for the duration of the trip, there is adequate room for storage and a large communal kitchen.

Ice climbing gear will be organized for the trip. The club has a limited selection of harnesses and helmets which can be used for the trip at no cost.  Ice climbing boots, crampons and tools (axes) will be provided from the U of C outdoor centre at a cost of about $50/person for the weekend. Depending on the final numbers, later registrants might not be guaranteed gear and they will be responsible for obtaining their gear (gear can be rented from MEC in Calgary or Edmonton).

Registration will open at noon on January 7 2018.

There are a total of 24 spots for Nordegg, which includes 6 leaders.  Sign up will be on a first come, first served basis, but 10 spots will be reserved for first time climbers. Once all the spots fill up, participants will be placed on waiting lists.  Participants will be informed shortly after they register if they are on the waiting list or not.

Ice climbing participants must also have a valid ACC membership and should submit their number when they register. Interested participants should indicate the trip they are registering for and what gear they require (for boot sizes, it is advisable to go up half a size from your normal shoe size).

Participants will be required to pay for Hostel and Gear rentals in full by Jan 21, 2018 to secure their spot for the trip.  After Jan 21st, participants on the waiting list will have the opportunity to fill any remaining spots.
