Lake O’Hara
3 August, 2024 - 7 August, 2024
The Saskatchewan Section has the pleasure of returning to Lake O’Hara again for the summer 2024. We have the Elizabeth Parker Hut booked for 4 nights from Saturday, August 3rd to Wednesday, August 7th. The trip will be structured as two 2-Night Camps (Sat-Mon & Mon-Wed) with the potential for a 4-Night Camp (Sat-Wed) depending on registration.
Trip Description:
Lake O’Hara is one of the gems of the Canadian Rockies, situated in Yoho National Park. Lake O’Hara is a secluded valley with a great network of trails and routes throughout the area that visits numerous lakes, viewpoints, and other wonderful places. It is like Lake Louise, but without the crowds!
The trip is primarily a hiking trip (there are over 40 km of trails, 15 km of which are the famous alpine circuit). Hiking leaders will be present during both camps to lead a daily hike option or participants can choose their own adventure. If leader availability is adequate, more technical objectives that are in the area, such as scrambling, glacier travel, and alpine routes might be offered. Children and youth are welcome.
Accommodations will be at the Elizabeth Parker Hut (we booked the whole hut) and we have spots reserved on the bus, so the approach is minimal. The trip is self-catered and the hut has a great kitchen with propane burners and oven. Since the approach is by bus and then followed by a short walk, your menu can be a little more gourmet than freeze dried meals if so desired, but there is no refrigeration.
It is recommended that interested participants look into accommodations for the day before the trip as the bus has early departure times (8:30 am and 10:30 am) and the mountain parks have become even more popular.
Trip Costs:
The anticipated cost for the 2-Day is $160/participant ($80 for under 18, $40 for under 5), which includes your bus pass, hut fees, and participant fee.
Registration:
Trip registration be in early to mid March and is open to all current Saskatchewan Section members, so check back often. Registration will be announced in the future.
