The Don Forest Service Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the ACC and its sections. it is an award for significant service to the club in areas such as volunteerism, community engagement, leadership, or exceptional contributions to the club’s mission and operations.
Kathy Hitchings was presented the Don Forest Service Award at this year’s Annual General Meeting.
Kathy has been involved with the Saskatchewan Section of the Alpine Club of Canada for over 25 years.
In 2014, Kathy joined the section executive as Secretary, and served three terms ending her tenure in 2020. She has always offered thoughtful guidance and decision making to the executive.
On numerous rock climbing, ice climbing, hiking and mountaineering trips Kathy is always welcoming of new members and assisting so that everything runs smoothly. She has promoted the ACC and its values in the community and within her own family, bringing her grandchildren on many of the Section’s yearly trips.
At the Sask Sections annual showing of the Banff Mountain Film Festival, Kathy has volunteered her time to help make it a success since its inception. She organizes the luncheon for the volunteers before the event, tends the sections information booth, helps coordinate the sponsors and welcomes attendees to the viewing on the day of the event.
Kathy is always willing to assist the Section with any projects or activities big or small. She is one of the ACC Sask’s many heroes who deserves this recognition for her continuous efforts to help maintain and sustain the ACC community.
